We seem to be caught up in the pursuit of something new, or innovative. There is an assumption that if something is old it can’t be any good and if it is new it must be better. Of course we know this can’t be true, and still we relentlessly chase the novel and the different. Nehemiah and his team turned to the Old Gate to continue their rebuilding.
Why not build a new one? Some pointed to the future perhaps, a bright and shiny testimony to the work of the builders. This was not Nehemiah’s plan, he knew that the old ways are often the best ways and in fact, if we want to enter God’s city they are the only way. What are these old ways and how can we use them while at the same time be relevant to a new and changing world? Come on Sunday and see!
